At Rice Medical Center, our Therapy Services department provides a full continuum of rehabilitative care to support patients at every stage of recovery. We offer inpatient, swing bed, and outpatient therapy services, ensuring seamless transitions and consistent, high-quality care whether you are recovering in the hospital or continuing treatment at home.
Our rehab team is made up of highly trained, compassionate therapists and therapy assistants. Each patient receives a personalized care plan designed to restore function, promote independence, and improve quality of life. Our services include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy across all care settings.
Physical Therapy
Restoring Strength, Mobility, and Function
Our Physical Therapy team helps patients recovering from surgery, illness, injury, or chronic conditions regain strength, balance, mobility, and endurance. Services include:
- Post-surgical rehabilitation (joint replacement, spine procedures, etc.)
- Gait and balance training
- Fall prevention programs
- Neuromuscular re-education (stroke, Parkinson’s disease, MS)
- Orthopedic and sports injury recovery
- Chronic pain management
- Post-stroke rehabilitation
We also assist with:
- Difficulty walking or performing daily activities
- Endurance and stamina improvement
- Arthritis management
- Muscle weakness and limited mobility
- Numbness or tingling sensations
- Wound and swelling care
- Vestibular issues, including dizziness
Our licensed therapists use evidence-based techniques such as manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, transfer and gait training, wound care, and adaptive equipment education. Their goal is to help you move better, feel stronger, and return to the life you enjoy.
Occupational Therapy
Regaining Independence in Daily Activities
Occupational Therapy focuses on restoring the skills needed for daily living and self-care. Whether recovering from hospitalization or managing a chronic condition, our therapists support patients with:
- Activities of daily living (ADLs) training: dressing, bathing, grooming
- Upper body strength and fine motor skill development
- Cognitive and perceptual training
- Adaptive equipment education and home safety recommendations
- Functional recovery after neurological conditions (stroke, brain injury)
Our approach is patient-centered, helping individuals achieve practical goals and regain independence in the activities that matter most.
Speech Therapy
Supporting Communication, Cognition, and Swallowing
Our Speech-Language Pathologists provide evaluation and treatment for communication, cognitive, voice, and swallowing disorders in both adults and children. Services include:
- Speech and language therapy for stroke, brain injury, or developmental delay
- Cognitive-communication therapy (memory, attention, problem-solving)
- Swallowing therapy (dysphagia) and diet modification recommendations
- Voice therapy and fluency (stuttering) treatment
- Pediatric speech and language services
We work closely with patients, families, and care teams to improve communication, restore cognitive function, and ensure safe swallowing.
